Mesothelioma. The Tragic Killer

Mesothelioma is an incurable cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. There are two forms of this disease. Peritoneal Mesothelioma effects the lining of the stomach and the Pleural form, which accounts for 70% of all Mesothelioma cancer, effects the lining of the lungs.

Asbestos exposed cancer is tragic in many ways. This cancer can lie latent in individuals for anywhere from 20-50 years. So, some people who are exposed to asbestos and eventually have Mesothelioma will not know they will contract the disease for decades.
The saddest part of this disease is that it takes the lives of hard working industrial workers. Before the mid 1980's there were no anti-asbestos laws enforced in industrial countries. This over site caused blue collar laborers throughout the world to work with asbestos on a day to day basis for sometimes years on end. The result was hundreds of thousands of deaths from Mesothelioma.

Currently there is no cure for Mesothelioma, but there is hope. Drugs like Thalidomide are now being tested to fight this cancer and does show some promise. However, the fight over this disease is far from over and must go on in order to one day cure this tragic disease.
